In this course, students will learn about using artificial intelligence (AI) for teaching and learning languages. It focuses on English education, but the strategies and resources introduced can also be applied to other foreign languages. The course covers formal education and self-study, so is designed for future teachers and students who want to effectively use technology to aid language development. The course will help students consider the impact of AI on language education though tasks such as reading articles, watching videos, listening to short in-class lectures, participating in group discussions, and using a range of AI tools. Note: Some AI tools will require registration (for example, with an email address), but no paid subscriptions are necessary.

Students will learn to critically and creatively use AI tools for language teaching and learning. They will evaluate AI tools from a range of perspectives, including: ease of use, suitability for task, ethical considerations and learning outcomes.
