This course aims to help students improve their written and analytical English through examining how fairy tales shape our childhood understanding of our social environment, and how this influences us in our adult lives. We will look at representations of gender, culture, religion, history and society in children's movies and stories, in order to analyze and to write about their themes, their role in education and their influence.

This is a content-based course. By the end of this course, students will have learned fundamental strategies in literature and cinema analysis. Classes will also focus on the basis for sound analytical writing skills in exposition, comparison and contrast, and argument and persuasion. The emphasis of this class is on writing, but also on understanding language and ideas through cinema, and students will be encouraged to verbally discuss their research and interests in class.
